the ability to control fire set the fundament for the industrialisation of the world. CAMPFIRE links the romantic with the rough.
we designed a series of 6 custom made canopied benches and 2 centered glass-chimneys. located outside on top of 5 star hotel bayerischer hof, in the city-center of munich, germany.
made of 10mm aluminium boards, each bench weighs 270 kg to fight wind force. machined after being powdercoated, the benches form a rotunda. all single parts are connected by screws, only. the custom designed glass-chimneys in the center feature sliding panels made of perforated stainless steel. In addition, CAMPFIRE is equipped with cushions and limited edition thermo blankets, designed for this occasion in cooperation with italian fashion label STONE ISLAND, using their reflective textiles.
HAF was comissioned by bicycle company CANNONDALE europe to make a concept of the LEFTY chair that could be communicated as a CANNONDALE product. the launch is supposed to take place at different mountainbike races throughout europe. therefore HAF also invented a special container that also serves as a display for the LEFTY. with only 2 kilos, the chair is light-weight and easy to handle. its´ sporty looks and signature construction don´t emphasize comfort but strength and dynamic.
CANE horst wittmann
a single sheet of 3mm thick aluminium, lasercut, bent and folded and given an anodized finish. the 19 slots grip and a stainless steel pin serve as serial numbering method for this collectors edition.
a centuries-old emblem of masculine power, monarchy and erotic assertion, which has come to signify the weak and the old. both these motifs are transformed into a contemporary object with new meaning. to recast an archetypal symbol as a symbol of our time in the context of accessory, fashion and product design, to exalt it as a freshly conceived life-style object. the result is a compelling collection of artesanally crafted anodized aluminum canes in a color scheme that references the ipod.
back in 2007 we presented the very first prototype of KYUDO. an LED arc lamp, expandable and ahead of time. that´s the way we work and we were very happy to find minds alike at KUNDALINI, the italian lighting brand. in 2014 KYUDO got an technical upgrade and comes with the latest generation of dimmable LED technology. inspiration for HAF´s design came from a classic, the arco by castiglioni. with KYUDO and KUNDALINI, one can be a pioneer in design.
what you see here are the first steps we are taking with GODELMANN, a factory and global player when it comes to concrete flooring. HAF got invited to work on a concept that would give a new spin to the use of concrete flooring. interested in the contract sector such as the hotel business or more generally speaking about open urban structures, we at HAF decided for a complex system, deriving from the 1x1m element in different shapes that can be of diverse function in combination with add-ons, such as light poles, side tables, neopren lounge areas, fireplaces and many other kinds of adjustments for specific needs and szenarios. this gallery gives a a first look at what´s about to happen. stay tuned.
the LEFTY cannondale comes with a box. this box was developed to secure and present the chair. it´s a travel case and display in one. for presentation, one can easily take of the box and place the tray on top of it. for transportation, this presentation tray, which encloses sedcards with further information on the chair, becomes the bottom of the box again.
chess is wellknown all over the world for quiet some time, from the inka to contemporary art, there are many interpretations of this classic board game. HAF is actually working for schmolzbickenbach, a stainless steel factory´s design department, to combine the classic with the futuristic. this is work in progress.
TELE is an expandable lamp. a LED stripe with a cooling body that you can flip 360° or slide up and down along the tube. by turning this stick lamp, you can have direct or indirect light.
POLAR BAR hotel bayerischer hof
the POLAR BAR is an outdoor bar on top of the 5 star plus hotel bayerischer hof in the heart of munich, germany. HAF decided for an integral concept, as the bar was only temporarily installed during winter-times. 2 boxes contained barstools, blankets, sidetables and lights to get the party started. once the bar was installed, the empty boxes served as hugh tables for guests.
for horst wittmann we designed a series of "unboxing" vitrines. wittmann´s solo exhibition entitled 3me2you1thing4sale at städtische galerie villingen-schwenningen is all about the force of design and how it affects consumers. "unboxing" vitrines, showcasing nothing but themselves were installed along with two smartphones. one showing a youtube original, where a woman, dressed in a silver bikini, unpacks her new computer. the other video shows horst wittmann doing some physical workout.
the THREE floor lamp was HAF´s first product ever. the lamp is made of three elements, the legs, the shade and the bulb. a tripod, with a shade consisting of three pieces and a star-shaped bulb fixture.
LEFTY was a self-iniciated project which questions the habitats of people when it comes to deal with a non-conformist seating element. LEFTY is in form and construction different to the archetype of a chair with four legs. the concept, this chair is based on, derives from thoughts on experimental works of rietveld, colani and others in the past. by the way, LEFTY got coverstory of the fiat 500 magazine, which is distributed all over europe.
